Home / CASP Services / Needle Exchange
CASP Needle Exchange service is a harm reduction intervention. Here, people who use substances can obtain sterile injecting and smoking equipment and other substance paraphernalia.
The needle exchange service also accepts and encourages the return of used injecting equipment for safe disposal. Information on safe injecting practices is provided by trained staff and referrals to the CASP nurse can be made on site for wound care and other health concerns.
The aim of these services is to reduce the damage associated with sharing used injecting equipment i.e. preventing the spread of HIV, Hep C, vein damage, overdose, etc. This is in addition to reducing the risk of discarded needles in the community.
