Health Promotion:

Prevention is better than cure!

CASP provides practical advice on ways to avoid contracting blood borne infections such as HIV, Hepatitis, as well as other sexually transmitted diseases and additional health problems related to substance misuse.

Every client is attended in a professional, unbiased manner and has access to our complete range of holistic therapies and services. Our Registered General Nurse (Christine Smith) is available Monday to Thursday.

Additional primary care service is provided within our Outreach drop in service Monday and Thursday evenings 6.30 - 8.30.

Health Education:

picHealth education is defined as the principle by which individuals and groups of people learn to behave in a manner conducive to the promotion, maintenance, or restoration of health. The ultimate aim of CASP's Health Education is Positive Behavioural Modification.

Education for health begins with people. We hope to motivate our client groups with whatever interests they may have in reducing risky behaviour relating to substance misuse or the impact substance misuse has had on their lives as a family member. CASP aims to facilitate our client grups in developing a sense of responsibility for health conditions, for themselves as individuals, as members of families, and as a community.

In controlling the spread of infectious infections health education commonly includes an appraisal of what is known by our client groups about a disease, an assessment of habits and attitudes of the persons they relate to spread and frequency of the disease, and the suggestion of specific means to keep themselves and others safe.

Registered General Nurses:

picOur Registered General Nurses provide an extensive range of services to the clients that use our service.

Services include;

- Womens health

- Mens Health

CASP links with HSE Mental Health Services where required and recognises the importance of Psychological well being of our client groups.

Pharmacy:

picCASP has close links with the HSE on matters related to pharmacy, and clinical decision making in relation to methadone prescribing and effective implementation of the HSE protocols.

Our Senior Pharmacist ,Dr Dennis O'Driscoll, mediates this process and offers channels of communication with community pharmacies which facilitates stable clients moving from in house to community treatment. Dr O'Driscoll provides advice on pharmaceutical related topics such as;benzodiazapams, methadone etc, both on their therapeutic value and their potential for abuse.

All pharmacists  working with our clients do so in conjunction with CASP staff to ensure best practice and a streamlined approach to the treatment of individuals on our programme.

picThe Medical Team, Senior Team and the Project Manager support and co-ordinate protocols through regular clinical meetings with all partners in this process.
